When you are in China, you have to be careful when you are talking about its neighboring country, Japan.

The Chinese people are taught in their teens that during the second world war, Japan invaded many countries in east asia, while quite a lot Japanese were taught in a different way.

That is a big issue of the two countries relationship. Some right-wing Japanese, which include scholars, politicians and citizens, believed their invasion in the second World war is an effort to bring the Asian people forward to compete with the imperial western countries. They thought Japan is the leading country in Asia and have the responsibility to help those less developed neighbors grow up.

But no matter how the Japanese make up their past, those people can not explain the simple fact that Japan had been exploiting natural resources in many of its invading countries, instead of developing on site, Japanese moved those resources back to its home country.

If you watch television during the prime time at night in China, you will have quite a possibility of seeing numerous anti-Japanese war serials on play. The Chinese people can not get enough of those.

The Chinese people do have a complex feeling towards Japan. On one hand, quite a lot Chinese could express freely that they do not like Japan due to the history issues, on the other hand, if you visit some Chinese families, you will find quite some home appliance are made from Japan, or nowadays, it may be made in China and branded as a Japanese company. If they do this, the price of the product will rise about 50 percent or even more.

I have asked some of my Chinese friends, they told me that in China, Japanese product have the reputation of good quality while their Chinese counterpart means poor designed, which I think is much less the fact since the Japanese are outsourcing much of its products in China, those products are made in China and sold in China, made by the Chinese and bought by the Chinese. In this case, I always wonder how could there be such a huge price gap?
