Power in Visayas fully restored after outage since midnight yesterday

Saturday, August 21, 2021

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines has successfully restored all power transmission services in Visayas today, according to a social media statement posted by the corporation. The last feeder to be fixed was restored at 12:16 PM Philippine Standard Time.

Parts of Cebu, Leyte-Samar, and Bohol had experienced an unscheduled power interruption starting 11:56 midnight yesterday, according to an earlier statement posted to social media by the NGCP. The outage was caused by a lightning strike to the Cebu-Quiot-Colon line, causing the line to trip.

The country’s energy department (DOE) in an earlier statement today directed the corporation to address the partial power blackout in Visayas. DOE secretary Alfonso Cusi made the directive after receiving a message from the Visayas branch of the NGCP, as well as monitoring the social media accounts of affected distribution utilities.
