The Hottest Chili In The World: Naga Viper

By Michael Mackin

If you ever wonder what and where can you find the hottest chili in the world then wonder no more because the world’s hottest chili can be found on a small town of Grantham, Lincolnshire. This chili is known as the Infinity Chili and it even surpasses the hotness of the now former hottest chili pepper in the world which is Bhut Jolokia that originated in India. This chili scored a whopping 1,067,286 on the Scoville Scale (a scale used to measure the hotness of chili peppers) when they tested it in Warwick University.

Now the Infinity Chili is so called named Infinity because it is very hard to quell. It results to almost never ending burning sensations that even the most proven and effective antidote cannot cure. Usually drinking milk does the trick but for this chili pepper drinking milk would not do anything to cure the burning sensation. It is even said that if a beginner chili eater tries to eat this chili pepper he/she will require hospital treatment.

Recently the title of the hottest chili in the world has been swiped again by a United Kingdom grower. Now the Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the Naga Viper as the world’s hottest chili today. The battle of determining who will take the spot for the hottest chili is a very fierce battle. As of today, the Guinness Book of World Records honors Gerald Fowler’s Naga Viper Chili. It registered an amazing 1.3 million on the Scoville Heat Scale surpassing the Infinity Chili by around 240,000 heat units.

The Scoville Heat Scale measures the amount of Capsaicin in a chili pepper. Capsaicin is the active ingredient in chili peppers that makes the chili pepper hot.

The popularity of being recognized as the world’s hottest chili is overwhelming. When the Infinity chili was still the reigning chili of the world the growers of this chili – Nick and Zoe Woods have acquired more than a mass of orders from different countries. A once family owned company has turned into such a big production garnering orders from countries like United States, Africa, Sweden and even Brazil. The hype is really an overwhelming experience. Similarly the current grower of the hottest chili – Gerald Fowler is experiencing the same thing. He has received about 5,000 orders for his chili and about 1,200 are on his waiting list of seeds. It is truly a remarkable and profitable thing to have.

Many people have tried and tested growing their own variations of chili pepper. There are some who challenged themselves to see how far they can go when eating the so called world’s hottest chili. It is definitely a challenge to do because of the rather dire consequences. It can give you minor burns and blisters. It can also cause temporary blindness when you rubbed your hands after you handled the chili. The worst case is for you to require going to a hospital for treatment. There are definitely a lot of things that could happen but the experience is something you can really remember. \\\\\\\\
